Jarrow is a city located in the North East of England. It is situated on the River Tyne, and has a population of around 27,000 people.
The history of Jarrow dates back to the 8th century, when it was founded by the Anglo-Saxon King Ecgberht of Northumbria. The city was an important centre of trade and industry during the medieval period, and was home to a number of monasteries, including the famous Monkwearmouth-Jarrow Abbey.
During the Industrial Revolution, Jarrow became a major shipbuilding centre, and was also known for its coal mining and steel industries. The city declined in the late 20th century, but has undergone regeneration in recent years.
Jarrow is home to a number of notable landmarks, including the Jarrow Crusade Memorial and the Bede’s World museum. The city also has a strong sporting tradition, and is home to professional football club, Sunderland AFC.
